APRIL GARAGE SALE:  Friday/Saturday, April 13th and 14th. Location:  Marion McNamara's home, 822 N.W. 36th St, Corvallis.  As you do your spring cleaning in March, please consider donating some items that can be sold at this event.   Contact Barbara Ross, (752-3605), or William Switzer  if you have items you would like to contribute or would like to have picked up.  This is our first fundraiser of the year.  Let's work together to make it a good one.

Message from Sam Sappington, Chair of Benton County Democrats

Local Democrats and, in fact, our entire community suffered a major  loss
this week with the sudden and tragic passing of Wes Price.   He experienced a
brain hemorrhage last Tuesday, and never regained  consciousness.  Wes was 72, a
life-long resident of the Willamette Valley,  a dedicated volunteer and
community activist, and he was serving as the  current Chair of the LBCC Board of
Education.   Wes ran  as the local Democratic Party's candidate for State
Representative in 2004  (House District 15 -- Linn and Benton Counties).   He is
survived  by his wife of 50 years, Diane, three grown children, and nine
grandchildren.

DeFAZIO PROPOSES DONATION OF BAILEY BRANCH RAIL LINE TO ENSURE CONTINUED USE

WASHINGTON, DC-U.S. Congressman Peter DeFazio sent a letter to the Union Pacific Railroad requesting that it consider donating, rather than selling, the 14-mile Bailey Branch railroad line, which runs from south of Corvallis down to Monroe and over to Dawson.

Oregon senator wants to spread vote by mail nationwide

October 3, 2006

Oregon’s vote-by-mail elections have been so successful the federal government should subsidize the transition in other states, U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden says.

Wyden has introduced a bill to appropriate $110 million over three years to help states convert to the mail ballots that Oregon voters have been using for years.

After nearly two decades of tests in local and special elections, including one in 1996 that put Wyden into the Senate, the state started voting by mail in all elections in 2000.
