Join the Community Discussion about Measure 41 and 48

Please join with members of the Benton County community to discuss the potential impact of Measures 41 and 48. The event will be held at the Corvallis Public Library at 7pm on Wednesday, September 13.

Panelists will be on hand to answer your questions, and to talk about the unintended consequences these poorly written measures will have on schools, higher education, health care and all of our public services.

Measure 41, Bill Sizemore's most recent tax scheme, is the substitution measure which allows individuals to connect the federal and state tax code. This will cut over $800 million out of the 07-09 biennial revenue stream. Worse, this measure is retroactive and will cut over $100 million out of the the last quarter of this biennium.

Measure 48, also known as the so called Tax Payer Bill of Rights, seeks to limit the growth of the state budget to inflation plus population growth. This failed experiment would do even more harm here than in Colorado because this measure includes tuition, bonding projects and even unemployment in the spending limit. This measure is so poorly written that it may even be retroactive to this current biennium.

Defeating these ballot measures is critical to the future of public services in Oregon. Please come to this forum to learn more about the measures and get your questions answered.
