---- DAILY VIGIL protesting the war in Iraq, 5-6 pm in front of the Courthouse on 4th Street. Democrats gather there on Wednesday each week.
---- TROOPS HOME FAST hunger strike continues until Sept. 21, the International Day of Peace. Pledge to fast for one day, once a week, several days in a row, or whatever works for you. If you can’t, or don’t want to fast, you can still help by staffing the information table from 12-3 or 3-6. We need more volunteers:
---- September 3, Sunday, 2:00 pm: RALLY & MARCH, SOLIDARITY FOR IMMIGRANT RIGHTS: Celebrate the contributions of all of Oregon’s work force and tell Congress that it’s time to fix our broken immigration system. 4. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
• CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES….
-- The CORVALLIS KIDS COUNT campaign (for the 509-J school district operating levy) needs your help. Anyone who wishes to participate in this campaign (canvassing, phoning, distributing signs, writing letters) contact Mark Armour (markjane@comcast.net).
-- The PAUL EVANS FOR OREGON SENATE campaign will be canvassing every Saturday (10:00 am, Capitol steps) and Sunday (1:00 pm) from now until the election. It’s great to add to the people power of our Marion County neighbors. Contact the campaign; Note the Bus Project canvass on September 9. We need your help to make it a success.
-- The SAM SAPPINGTON for HOUSE DISTRICT 15 campaign will be canvassing the district, both weekdays and weekends until the election. Scheduled so far: (Lit Drops) Thursday, September 7th, Wednesday, September 13th, and Thursday, September 14thâ€â€with more to come. Evening shifts run from 5:30-8:00 pm (ish). • FALL FESTIVAL….
-- Saturday and Sunday, September 23/24. This important fundraising event, serving delicious food from NEARLY NORMALS, is an annual happening. Please sign up for shifts (10-1:00; 1-4:00; and 4-7:00 each day). We need 5 volunteers for each shift.

5. SUCCESSES
The BCDEMS Summer Picnic was a huge success--and very cool (in the Boys and Girls Club air-conditioned gym). The pie auction raised enough money to cover the cost of the room, and the Folklore Society joined us for contra dancing afterwards
