1. ACTION NEEDED
We need PERSONAL COMPUTERS FOR BCDEMS’ HQ. If you have one that you can lend for 4 months or donate to us, our HQ efforts will greatly benefit. These computers will support BCDems and several campaigns. They’ll be used for voter identification, list creation, etc. Email Biff Traber or call him at 753-6735.

3. EVENTS
---- DAILY VIGIL protesting the war in Iraq, 5-6 pm in front of the Courthouse on 4th Street. Democrats gather there on Wednesday each week.
---- TROOPS HOME FAST hunger strike continues until Sept. 21, the International Day of Peace. Pledge to fast for one day, once a week, several days in a row, or whatever works for you. If you can’t, or don’t want to fast, you can still help by staffing the information table from 12-3 or 3-6. We need more volunteers:
---- August 16, Wednesday, 7-9:00 pm: “IS THE IRAQ WAR ILLEGAL?†Lt. Ehren Watada is facing 7+ years in prison for refusing to serve in Iraq because he believes that the war is illegal. Is he correct? We will explore his reasoning and discuss his controversial decision at the Odd Fellows Hall. All are welcome. Contact Leah Bolger or 207-7761
---- August 17, Thursday, 6-8:00 pm: GRAND OPENING, BENTON COUNTY DEMOCRATIC HEADQUARTERS. Come on down to see our new HQ at 129 N.W. 4th Street, across from the Benton County Courthouse. Join us for a drop-in visit by Peter DeFazio (around 7:00 pm) and for some good, old fashioned camaraderie.
---- August 19, Saturday: BCDEMS’ 145th ANNUAL SUMMER PICNIC and CONTRA DANCE. Boys and Girls Club, 1112 N.W. Circle, Corvallis. Featuring AMAZON CREEK (no admission charge; we’ll pass the hat). See the picnic page for music samples and Very-Ultra-Super-Important Pie Auction info.
---- August 21, Monday, 11:30-12:30: Congresswoman Darlene Hooley will conduct a Town Hall meeting on "Open and Honest Government" in the meeting room at the Benton Plaza. Watch for more info in local news media.

Grace Lutheran Church, Harrison and Kings, Corvallis. Doors open at 6:30, business begins at 7:00 pm. Program TBA. All precinct committee people are encouraged to attend.
4. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
• STATE FAIR ACTIVITIES….
It’s State Fair time, and we need volunteers to help us make it happen. Why not sign up for one of the following:
--Sunday, 8/20…9:00 am-3:00 pm to help the Democratic Party of Oregon set up booth
--Tuesday, 8/29 to staff the booth in four-hour shifts, 10:30-2:30; 2:30-5:30; 6:30-10:30 (four people per shift)
--Tuesday, 9/5 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm to take down the booth

• FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE NEEDS….
--We need someone to manage our merchandising--work with our local supplier, take orders, distribute product, set up for sales at local events (with your dedicated sales staff) and keep the HQ well stocked. Contact Fundraising Chair Todd Barnhart or 754-0196.
• NEWSLETTER NEEDS….
--We need someone to coordinate paid ads for the newsletter. If you’re willing to spend a few hours a monthâ€â€and a few more to get it off the groundâ€â€please contact Davi Richards or 745-3866.
