Hopefully by now you've heard of the Bus Project. I became involved only recently, and have already been on four Bus canvasses: in Portland for Rick Metsger (SD 26), Salem for Brian Clem (HD 21), Lincoln City for Jean Cowan (HD 10), and North Bend (HD 9) for Arnie Roblan. Of all the ways to get involved in politics and help enact change, boots on the ground canvassing is one of the most effective, which is why I have become involved with the Bus Project. The Bus Project was begun in 2002, and has helped elect many progressive candidates. One candidate supported by the bus won by 40 votes! Canvassing does make a difference!
I have met many interesting and inspiring people from all around western Oregon on these canvasses. In Lincoln City I canvassed with Alice, the Secretary of the Lincoln County Dems. Arnie Roblan from Florence is an amazing candidate. It’s not often you get to hear people excited about being able to vote for the guy who was their principle in high school. I have gone on fascinating close-up guided tours of sections of neighborhoods which I would otherwise have never undertaken! I have absorbed many novel ideas for gardening and porch decorating! I have had meaningful and memorable conversations with numerous citizens, including Republicans! I have eaten delicious food , including spaghetti made by Arnie Roblan and clam chowder, salmon, and cheesecake at a private home with an incredible garden and view overlooking Yaquina Bay in Newport. Most importantly, getting on the Bus let me interact with and help out Dems from throughout the state.
There’s a Bus trip coming up on August 12, which is actually stopping in Corvallis, on the way to Eugene to canvass for Chris Edwards (HD 14). Chris is a great candidate who really needs our support.
