A resolution to endorse House Joint Resolution 28, an amendment to the Constitution of the United States regarding the right to vote, and to call on others to support HJR 28.
Whereas some citizens of the United States are disenfranchised by the laws of some states, and whereas some U.S. citizens were disenfranchised de facto in the November 2004 election by long delays in polling places and other voting process problems, and whereas the U.S. Constitution does not currently contain a provision guaranteeing the right to vote to all citizens of voting age,
we therefore resolve
1. Benton County Democrats endorse House Joint Resolution 28, an amendment to the U.S. Constitution regarding the right to vote, and
2. Benton County Democrats call on Senators Wyden and Smith, Congresswoman Hooley, and Congressman DeFazio to support HJR 28, and
3. Benton County Democrats call on the state central committee of the Democratic Party of Oregon likewise to endorse HJR 28 and to urge Oregon«ÉŸs Senators and Congressmen and Congresswoman to support HJR 28.
