Not One Damn Dime Day, Jan 20th

Since our religious leaders will not speak out against the war in
Iraq, since our political leaders don't have the moral courage to
oppose it, Inauguration Day, Thursday, January 20th, 2005 is "Not One Damn Dime Day«É˘ in America.

On "Not One Damn Dime Day" those who oppose what is happening in our name in Iraq can speak up with a 24-hour national boycott of all forms of consumer spending.

I truly believe that, if the red states and blue states made a sincere effort to get to know each other, they'd discover that, beneath their surface differences, there are a lot of deep underlying differences.

But that doesn't mean we have nothing in common. We must always remember that, as Americans, we all have a common enemy -- an enemy that is dangerous, powerful and relentless. I refer, of course, to the federal government.

Congressman DeFazio on Social Security Privatization

Thanks for your message in opposition to President Bush's plans to partially privatize Social Security. I have long been a vocal opponent of proposals to undermine Social Security via privatization.

Although critics of Social Security claim the program is going "bankrupt" and is in "crisis," the report from the Social Security Trustees proves otherwise. Demographic changes (a growing number of retirees, fewer workers, and longer life-expectancy) create manageable challenges for Social Security. However, the program is fundamentally sound and can remain so for the next 75 years and beyond with relatively minor changes.
