Treasurer's Update - "Back on Track"
As I reported in last night's central committee meeting, financially the BC Dems are back on track with our 2005 plan. We are ahead on fund raising year to date and expect to be close by year end given our reduced fund raising plan for 2005. We exceeded the plan for expenses year to date largely due to a valuable new program - constituions for high school students. In summary, we expect to end the year the same amount of cash as we started.
Treasurer's Update - Better but Still Tight
First, many thanks to those of you who stepped up to help; it worked!
Now let me explain more.
Those of you who heard my treasurer's report at the central committee meeting will remember my discussing our near term cash problem. We had deferred major fund raising and had taken on a new project - providing copies of the US Constitution to Benton County high school seniors. As a result, my projections showed us having a cash flow problem over the summer, until we reached the major fundraising event in September.
Financial Brinkmanship
Earlier this week George Bush very explicitly put the future of the US's financial credibility and thus its economy at risk - HE QUESTIONED THE LIKLIHOOD OF US TREASURY BONDS BEING REPAID as he continued on his Social Security wrecking campaign. He is trying to show how we ought to worry about how the the "insolvency" as he calls it in 2018. This is the time when Social Security needs to start getting interest payments from and redeeming the US Treasury Bonds representing the SS Trust Fund. Bush is trying to generate urgency and worry by pointing out that the bonds are "only paper" and may not get paid thus we need to "privatize".
Unfortunately, if he succeeds at convincing the country (and the world) of the urgency, we'll find ourselves with T-Bills be devalued - a economic disaster.

Starting Biff the Treasurer's blog
Hi
This is a new experience for me. I have never done much to write stuff publicly and regularly. But since i seem to be urging it on others as a way to communicate, I thought I ought to follow my own advice. Lets see what kind of fool I can make of myself or more positively, what good I might do.
I see this as a dual purpose blog. First, it is Biff's blog and thus a place for me to contribute or vent as it makes sense. Second, since I am the treasurer, it is a place for bits of treasurer updating.
